The Toronto Marlies defeated the Hamilton Bulldogs, 7-2, on Saturday afternoon in front of the largest crowd ever to see an American Hockey League game in Canada.

Attendance at Ivor Wynne Stadium in Hamilton was 20,565 for the "Steeltown Showdown," the 2012 AHL Outdoor Classic presented by Molson Canadian and Boston Pizza.

With game-time temperatures at -4 C (25 F), the hometown Bulldogs got on the board just 27 seconds into the contest on a goal by Dany Masse. But the Marlies answered three times before the end of the first period, carried a 4-2 lead into the third and scored three late goals to seal the victory.

Greg Scott scored twice for Toronto, Jerry D'Amigo and Philippe Dupuis recorded three assists each and Nicolas Deschamps added a goal and two assists.

The game was televised live on Sportsnet throughout Canada, and re-aired on the NHL Network in the U.S.

Buffalo Sabres General Manager Darcy Regier was officially presented with the PHPA Curt Leichner Distinguished Member Award prior to Wednesday’s game against Boston.

The award, named in honor of former PHPA Executive Director, Curt Leichner, is presented annually to a member of the hockey community who has made significant contributions towards the advancement of professional minor league hockey, and has continued to diligently serve the sport.
